Project Description
Member of marine Synechococcus cluster 5.1. Member of clade IV (16S, Fuller et al., 2003); clade IV genotypes detected in several mesotrophic coastal environments in the Mediterranean, North Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, appears to be an abundant component of the cyanobacterial picoplankton lineage. Microdiversity observed within the genus lends itself to 'cluster sequencing' to define the underlying genetic basis for niche adaptation.
